James R. Washington III is a Certified Public Accountant, licensed attorney, and business executive with more than 15 years of experience leading financial, administrative, and human capital strategy. As the Founding Principal of The J Group, LLC, he provides executive oversight of the firm’s tax, administrative, and human resources practice, setting the strategic direction that guides organizational performance, compliance integrity, and long-term growth.
In addition to his advisory leadership, James brings more than a decade of executive experience as General Counsel and Chief Financial Officer of a large construction company, where he oversaw financial operations and directed the human resources functions for a workforce of more than 400 employees. In this dual executive capacity, he led budgeting and financial reporting, established internal control systems, managed enterprise risk, and supervised HR strategy across recruitment, regulatory compliance, workforce planning, and employee relations.
James’s multidisciplinary background includes service as a Criminal Investigator with the Internal Revenue Service, public accounting experience with Ernst & Young, and corporate accounting experience with Entergy Services, Inc. His CPA credential and legal training enable him to structure sophisticated compliance frameworks, anticipate regulatory risk, and align financial and workforce strategy with business objectives.
He earned his Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law and holds an undergraduate degree from Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge. He has also served as an adjunct professor at Loyola University College of Law and as an adjunct tax professor at Southern University of New Orleans.
